The district discovered asbestos-containing materials in classrooms, hallways, and mechanical areas of four schools. With a tight summer deadline and strict compliance requirements from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), they needed a certified contractor capable of executing the work efficiently, safely, and with zero disruptions to the academic calendar.
The district faced three major hurdles:
- Occupied Environment: All work had to be completed during summer break before classes resumed.
- Multiple Sites: Each school required unique abatement plans and containment measures.
- Regulatory Compliance: Strict CDPH, OSHA, and EPA requirements demanded full documentation and independent clearance testing.
Wildfire debris is more than a mess — it’s dangerous. Burned homes and outbuildings often contain asbestos, lead, and heavy metals that become part of the ash and soil after a fire. Cleanup must be handled with care to avoid exposing workers, neighbors, or nearby ecosystems.
The challenge at Cohasset was twofold:
- Confirm the presence of hazardous materials through environmental testing.
- Remove and dispose of contaminated debris quickly, so the property could be cleared for safe rebuilding.

Alliance Environmental Services, Inc. implemented a comprehensive abatement program that included:
- Full asbestos and lead testing prior to abatement.
- Installation of negative air systems and containment zones at each site.
- Safe removal and disposal of asbestos materials at approved facilities.
- Independent laboratory testing to confirm clearance before occupancy.
The project was completed on schedule, and all four schools passed clearance testing with zero safety incidents.
